Engineered for the "high-powered" in the underworld
It was a time of smoky nightclubs and rolling crap games, of blazing tommy guns and heart-pounding car chases. It was an era when bold G-men battled notorious gangsters... and when the biggest gangsters of all drove defiantly around the city in the most elegant automobiles. Often customized to satisfy the mobster's needs, these powerful motor cars were a mixture of palace and fortress, providing plush luxury and sturdy defense.
One car that was a fovourite of the mighty kingpins was the 1937 Cord Phaeton Sedan. Indeed through the 1920s and 1930s, Cord produced some of the most magnificent cars ever to hit the road.
Available in 1937 was the Cord812, which came in two wheelbase choices; 125 inches or a Custom 136 inches. These mighty chassis were powered by a V-8 286-cubic-inch engine whose performance could be enhanced with a supercharger that produced 190 horsepower.
Like the infamous men who rode in it, the 1937 Cord Phaeton pulled a lot of weight - for it weighed nearly 4,000 pounds. It was the perfect vehicle for impressing a moll or eluding the feds. Now, an elegant 19937 Cord Phaeton Sedan is reproduced in a luxurious die-cast model. Crafted in 1:43 scale and authentically detailed, your 1937 Cord Phaeton Sedan captures the very spirit of that notorious era. It is produced by - and available only from - Matchbox Collectibles.
